Description

The Madison Board takes its name from one of the West's great trout rivers, and like the river it runs steady. At 12"x18" and a full 2" thick, it sits between the compact Gallatin and the commanding Yellowstone, so there's room to break down a whole chicken or carve a Sunday roast without it taking over the kitchen. The end-grain surface takes your knife's edge instead of fighting it, which keeps blades sharper longer and holds up to decades of chopping, slicing and carving. Handcrafted from premium hardwoods in Montana, each board has its own pattern of dark and light grain, the kind of piece that stays on the counter between meals instead of going back in a cabinet. Prep on it all week, then serve on it Saturday: the Madison has the weight and presence for a spread of cured meats, cheese and bread.

Use & Care

Your board is built to last—keep it conditioned, clean, and dry for years of beauty and performance.

Conditioning

  • Apply mineral oil or a beeswax/mineral oil mix before first use and monthly thereafter.
  • Condition before cutting juicy foods to prevent absorption.
  • Avoid olive or fatty oils—they can go rancid.

Cleaning

  • Wipe with a 50/50 water-vinegar mix; dry immediately.
  • For freshness, rub with a cut lemon.
  • Avoid soap, bleach, or harsh cleaners—they strip the protective finish.
  • Never soak or leave under running water.

Maintenance

  • If grain feels rough, buff with fine sandpaper or steel wool.
  • Store on a dry surface; avoid prolonged direct sunlight.
  • Boards with feet can be left out; without feet, ensure airflow underneath.
